About Us
The Suitcase Ensemble
is a theatre collective bringing together some of the most exciting
young and emerging theatre makers in Liverpool.
The group exists to provide opportunities for local artists and members of the community to develop creativity, share skills, create original performances and use theatre and art to explore questions about contemporary life.
We are dedicated to widening access to high quality artistic experiences for artists, participants and audience members, with a particular focus on Merseyside.
There are currently three main areas of our work:
1. Small scale professional touring theatre: original and unconventional cross-artform work that tours theatre venues
2. Innovative and experimental performance in non-traditional spaces
3. Participatory projects and collaborations including workshops for young and emerging theatre makers, longer-term participatory projects and collaborations on large scale public performances
Our work is rooted in the absurdities and nonsense of the everyday. We create innovative and contemporary theatre that speaks about real
life with intelligence, humour and emotional resonance.

The Suitcase Ensemble is a company of enthusiastic, creative and dedicated artists who create exciting and imaginative theatre. I was impressed by their scratch version of 'Clunk' and inspired by the style of theatre they had developed; quite bizarre and totally different to anything currently being produced in the Merseyside region.
Hope Street Ltd is pleased to support the company, nurture it and provide a mentoring programme for them, and we plan to support them for as long as they consider it to be of value to them.
Peter Ward, Director, Hope Street Ltd
The Suitcase Ensemble is an associate company of Hope Street Ltd and we are currently artists in residence at Metal Liverpool
We receive ongoing support-in-kind from Hope Street Ltd and Metal, and are currently in receipt of project funding from Arts Council England, Liverpool City Council, Liverpool PCT, Awards for All, The Co-operative Bank and Riverside Housing.
